26 April 2010 Turning algae problems into benefits

Algae plumes are the cause of lots of problems in today’s sewage treatment plants as is seen in this Water World search http://www.waterworld.com/index/search.html?si=ww+&collection=ww&keywords=algae&x=19&y=7 . We should stop looking at algae as a contaminant in our sewage treatment facilities. Instead we should evaluate the experience of Algae Wheel and retool our sewage treatment facilities to use algae to accomplish less costly sewage treatment, see http://www.algaewheel.com/wastewater-treatment.cfm. Also, we could use the algae as a resource for the production of biodiesel. Biodiesel/Sewage treatment plants using algae could then potentially generate income from biodiesel in addition to bills sent to sewer customers. The extra money could them be spent for maintenance, repair, and replacement of the underground sewer and water pipe system.
